Betty Lee Price Eason

December 28, 1926 — September 3, 2018

Betty Lee (Price) Eason, 91, of St. Simons passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, 2018. She was born December 28, 1926, in Babson Park, Florida to Luke Price and Essie Mae McKinney Price Sapp.

Betty is survived by her son, William R. Eason (Cindy) of Milwaukee, WI; daughters, Patricia Ann Swafford (Bernie) and Janet Eason-Willis (Tom) both from St. Simons; brother-in-law, Merle Eason (Sue) of Savannah; special friend and cousin Dorothy McKinney Nicholson (Arnie) of Brandon, FL; grandchildren, Lee Swafford of St. Simons, Christine Benedetti of Atlanta, Jennifer Willis-Nichols of St. Louis, MO, Tommy Willis of Lexington, KY, Geni Scalio and Carrie Ryfinski of Milwaukee, WI; great grandchildren Dominic Pitzen, Wyatt and Chloe Scalio, Gavin Swafford, Cecilia and Camila Benedetti; and many cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents and husband, William R. Eason, Sr.

Betty grew up in Central and South Florida attending Palatka High School and later working as a telephone operator. In 1946 Betty married naval officer, William R. Eason, the love of her life. They were married 57 years. During that time they traveled the U.S. and Europe with their children and finally semi-retired in Atlanta, then to Satsuma, FL and finally to St. Simons Island. Betty was devoted to her family but always found time to volunteer at church, with her children’s many activities, and support naval relief projects. During her years in Atlanta, Betty was payroll clerk and assisted with training of employees at South DeKalb J. C. Penny. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica on St. Simons Island. Betty also looked forward every year to a renewal of her faith at the Tattnall Camp Meeting.

Betty was affectionately known to all her family as “Ba”. She was an amazing, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who loved nothing more than spending time with her family and making each person feel special. Ba taught her family by example important lessons in life, love and cherish family, embrace the simplicity of each day, and be faithful and thankful to God. Her family and friends will miss her sweet smile, her laugh, her special love and her lemon cake and cookies!

The Eason family wishes to extend a special thanks to Sandra Lane for her friendship and loving support to Betty and family. Betty was grateful for the prayers, visits and beautiful flowers she received during her illness. They would also like to thank Dr. Mitchell Jones and Hospice of Golden Isles for their dedicated service.
