CLAXTON: Janie Wilkes McDowell went home to our Lord Jesus in Heaven on Wednesday June 19, 2024. We all know she is with our Mama and surrounded by all the cats, dogs, horses, pets and family she ever loved and loved her deeply. As a beloved daughter, loving sister, adored Mom, and worshipped Nana, she will be missed by us all.
In recent years, Janie fought courageously against her illness, even losing her voice to cancer last year. Still, she remained strong and devoted to her family. She was her happiest being with her adored grandsons.
Growing up with Janie was entertaining. She was always the most hilarious person in the room with a bright smile and contagious laugh. Janie loved the beach. As the only musically inclined member of our family, Janie learned to play the flute and clarinet. She took pleasure in being a member of the Palatka South High School Band.
As our dear Mama declined in health the last few years of her life, Janie was devoted to caring for her. As Mama’s primary caregiver, Janie was there constantly. Janie’s place in Heaven was certainly secured from her faithfulness and steadfast dedication to Mama and others’ care.
Janie is preceded in death by her Mama, Carolyn Wilkes. She leaves her father, Gene Wilkes, her siblings, Jennifer, Brent and Jason, her children, Amanda McDowell and Mike McDowell as well as her beloved grandsons Jayce and Liam. She loved her niece Ashley Grace as well.
A celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later date for immediate family members. If you would like to honor Janie, donations can be made to this wonderful cancer organization who helped her immensely. C.A.R.E.S. P.O. Box 186 Claxton, Ga. 30417.
