CLAXTON: Jean Sapp Thompson, better known to most as Mama Jean, was a cook, an artist, a traveler, and often times a family historian of types, as she could recount the best memories of everything she had encountered in life. A native of Evans county and longtime resident of Tattnall county, she had a heart that loved everyone from the moment she laid eyes on them and a smile that was infectious. Jeans life was one with many hats and titles. She grew up on the farm and from the start, was family focused. Her work and hobby became ceramics and painting. She was a pro card player. Her role in the church was just as active as her life at home. She loved the children’s ministry and led the women’s ministry for years. Her true gift was bringing happiness to everyone she came into contact with, whether that was by cooking for them, talking with them, or praying with them. She was a family matriarch and loved by all.
