CLAXTON: Mr. Jerry Blocker, 81, of Evans County, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, under the care of Affinis Hospice in Lyons, Georgia. He was born on June 8, 1945, in Claxton, Georgia.
Mr. Blocker was of the Baptist faith. He was a United States Army veteran who honorably served his country in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968 as a Sergeant with the 4th Infantry/Combat Division. He completed his active-duty service at Fort Hood, Texas, in 1969. Following his active service, he enlisted in the Georgia Army National Guard as Sergeant 75th Engineer Detachment, where he faithfully served until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Affairs and American Legion Post.
In his early childhood, Mr. Blocker was raised on the family farm in Evans County, where he worked alongside his family tending tobacco and various row crops. The hard work of farm life shaped and molded the strong work ethic he carried throughout his life.
Mr. Blocker is survived by his daughter, Kay Blocker of Claxton, Ga; the mother of his two children, Linda McKenzie of Claxton, Georgia; brothers, Joe Blocker and Jack Blocker, all of Claxton, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ray Blocker; his father, Breck Blocker; mother, Ruby Francis Lee Blocker; brothers, Jim Blocker and Johnny Blocker.
VISITATION: Friday, July 3, 2026, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: Friday, July 3, 2026, at Mellie’s Funeral Home in Claxton, Georgia.
BURIAL: Union Church Cemetery.
PALLBEARERS: Larry Blocker, Carson Blocker, Adam Blocker, Daniel Larralde, Cyrus Purdiman, John Evers, Bobby Nunnelee, and Jonas Williams.
REMEMBRANCES: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Gospel Baptist Church, 176 Gospel Baptist Temple Road, Claxton, Georgia 30417; or to Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Attn: John Deloach, 3159 Ga Highway 129 South, Claxton, Georgia 30417
