CLAXTON: Joanne DeLoach Sharpe, 79, was a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, retired educator, and lover of nature; passed away at her home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice surrounded by her loving family. She leaves behind a legacy rooted in compassion, curiosity, and quiet strength. She was the proud mother of three children, who were the center of her world and her greatest accomplishments. Her love for them was steady and unwavering, guiding them with wisdom, patience, and a gentle sense of humor. As a grandmother, she found a new joy – one filled with laughter, storytelling, and treasured moments that will live on in the hearts of her grandchildren. She was a dedicated educator of 38 years with the Evans County Board of Education. One of her greatest joys as an educator was being named, “Teacher of the Year.” She believed deeply in the power of learning and the importance of nurturing young minds. She obtained a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southern and a Master’s Degree in Christian Ministry and Biblical Studies from Guido Bible College. She touched countless lives through her work, leaving a lasting impression on students and colleagues alike. Even in retirement, her passion for teaching and learning never faded. Joanne found peace and happiness in nature. Whether it was the ocean shore, the warmth of sunshine, or the simple beauty of the outdoors. She held a special place in her heart for her beloved dog, Jade.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, John W. Sharpe. Her grandchildren, Floyd Sparks, III and Angel Lee Weiss, her father and mother, Will & Myrtice DeLoach, and two brothers, Beecher & Loren DeLoach.
She is survived by her three loving children. Jhonda (Floyd) Sparks of Cobbtown, John (Letha) Sharpe of Martinez, and Jana Tanner of Claxton. Grandchildren Winston, Dakota, Dalton, Austin, Makala, and Joseph, seven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers – Denise, Edna, and Casey – for their compassion, dedication, and the gentle care they provided during her final days. Their kindness and love brought comfort to Joanne and all who loved her.
