CLAXTON: Joel Stephen Strickland, 54, passed away March 2, 2020, peacefully, at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Evans County and a member of Daisy United Methodist Church. He attended Claxton High School and Brandon Hall in Atlanta. He was a certified welder and skilled iron worker.
Stephen was preceded in death by his mother, Janie Hodges Strickland; his sister, Rebecca Stacie Strickland; his paternal grandparents, Leon and Erline Porter Strickland; and his maternal grandparents, Roy Hodges and Evelyn Mae Carter.
SURVIVORS: his father, Joel L. Strickland of Claxton; son, Derek (Jennifer) Emanuel of Claxton; brothers, Stuart (Sherri) Strickland of Claxton and Spencer (Lynn) Strickland of Macon; special friends, Teresa Newman of Claxton, and George Tracy Rushing of Claxton; two grandchildren, Aiden and Colton Emanuel; and several nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: Wednesday, March 4, 2020, 10-11:00 a.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.
