Larry "Andy" Jones

July 14, 1971 — June 7, 2024

CLAXTON: Larry Anthony “Andy” Jones, 52, went home to be with his Lord on June 7, 2024. An Evans County native, Andy attended school here and graduated from Claxton High School in 1990. Andy loved to work with his hands, was a great mechanic & was excellent at small engine repairs. Andy loved being outside, fishing, hunting and going horseback riding. He loved tending to his chickens and working in the garden. Andy will be remembered for his kindness, strength, and the deep love he had for his friends, family, and all that he came into contact with. His infectious smile made it impossible to not be happy around him. His legacy of faith and love will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. He loved to make people laugh and he was a lot of fun to be around, but he was in a silent battle on the inside. At the time of his death, he was employed with Lowe’s Home Improvement in Vidalia, Georgia

Andy died by suicide after a very courageous battle with depression and anxiety for decades. He suffered privately with just close friends & family knowing it due to the horrible stigma surrounding mental illness. A friend told me (Amy), that Andy had fallen into a very deep & dark hole that he just could not find his way back out of. Despite therapy, hospitalizations, medicines, and huge family support, sometimes the illness takes over, and tragically that was the case with Andy.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 says, I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved His appearing.”

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Billy Harn and brother-in-law, Chris Murphy.

Andy is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 32 years, Amy Harn Jones of Claxton, Ga. He also leaves behind two wonderful children, a son, Garret (Emily) Jones, of Pooler, Georgia, a daughter Allison “Allie” Jones of Claxton, Georgia, who is a complete and total Daddy’s girl since day one. Other survivors include his parents, Larry and Linda Jones of Claxton, Ga.; a sister, Tammy Murphy of Daisy, Ga.; mother-in-law, Linda Harn; brother-in-law, Michael Harn; sister-in-law Sophie (Carl) Greene, all of Claxton Georgia; nieces and nephews, Kristen and Jonathan Murphy, Joshua and Charity Greene, and Ethan Greene. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, and his beloved Belgian Malinois, Piper.

To honor Andy’s memory, make sure to check on those you love, especially those who always have a smile on their face. You never know who may be dealing with the hardest struggle in silence but hiding behind a smile.
