CLAXTON: Louis Brown, 96, went to be with our Lord on June 10, 2024, at his home in Claxton, Georgia after a short illness. He was under hospice care and surrounded by his loving family. Louis was born in Claxton, Georgia to James Manson and Polly Tucker Brown in 1928. He worked at the Savannah Shipyard at the end of World War II. Louis and Elise Jones married in 1948. They moved to Raritan, New Jersey. In 1950, and he got a job at a Union Carbide in Bound Brook, New Jersey, where he worked his whole career as a Maintenance Mechanic until he retired in 1990, and moved back home to Claxton, Georgia.
In 1952, he was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served during the Korean War after being sent with the 4th Infantry Division to support the operation of Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska until 1954 when he returned to his home in Manville, New Jersey.
He was a devout Christian and member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Manville, New Jersey and a member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Cobbtown, Georgia. He enjoyed listening to gospel music and loved working on many projects with his collection of tools. We celebrate his life and achieving the American Dream at this time.
He was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life for sixty-seven years, Annie Elise Brown; son, Mark Anthony Brown; parents, James M. and Polly T. Brown; brother and sister-in-law, Aubrey “Tobe” and Martha Brown; sisters and brothers-in-law, Loree (Akins) Alfred Sapp, Amelia and Charlie Bowen, Bernice and Harvey Green, Mildred and LeRoy Tucker; brothers and sisters-in-law, W.J. and Janie Akins, Inman and Eva Brown and Jim and Janie Brown.
SURVIVORS: son and daughter-in-law, James Louis and Allison Pidgeon Brown of Taylors, SC; grandchildren, Patricia “Patti” Elise Brown of Allen Park, MI., Jessica “Jessie” (James) Fox of Flat Rock, MI., Captain Christopher “Chris” James Brown of Washington, DC.; and several nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: June 13, 2024, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: June 13, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel.
BURIAL: Georgia Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
