Melba Jo McCall Hendrix

CLAXTON: Melba Jo McCall Hendrix, 86, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, following a long illness. She was born on April 7, 1940, to the late Thomas S. (Tom) McCall and Opal Herrington McCall of Evans County. Melba was a member of Bellville Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for several years as a young adult.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Melba worked as a Loan Officer at The Claxton Bank. She later worked as a bookkeeper at Daniel Brick for several years before moving to Albany, Georgia, in 1995. While living in Albany, she worked for Southern Plantation Group, a property management firm, for ten years. After returning to Evans County in 2006, Melba returned to work at Daniel Brick, and later did bookkeeping work for Hub Daniel and Harriett Anderson until the untimely death of her husband in 2012.

Melba was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Hendrix, and her brothers, Thomas McCall and Arnold McCall.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by her daughters, Donna Tootle (Derwood) of Bellville, Georgia, and Connie Robertson of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida; grandchildren, Brittany Brannen (Speer) of Register, Georgia, Connor Lamar Coleman (Felicia) of Winter Springs, Florida, and Jackson Robertson (Bethany) of Savannah, Georgia; great-granddaughters, Sawyer Kate Brannen, Marley Jaymes Brannen, Riley June Coleman, and Ada Jane Robertson; sisters, Mary Bass of Columbus, Georgia, and Matha Haire of Evans County; sister-in-law, Annette McCall of Bulloch County; and multiple nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: Friday, September 18, 2026, 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.

FUNERAL: Friday, September 18, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel.

BURIAL: Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
