CLAXTON: Melinda Ann Hodges died peacefully on March 12, 2026, in Statesboro at East Georgia Regional Medical Center at the age of 65 with family by her side.
Born on March 12, 1961, in Savannah, Georgia, Melinda lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a deep commitment to nurturing others. A beloved and cherished member of her community, Melinda’s career began as a librarian at the Evans County Public Library, and she continued to serve for many years as a librarian for the Evans County School System. Her passion for knowledge and books was evident in her hosting of Story Time at the library, a time that brought smiles and wonder to countless young children for many years.
In addition to her professional life, for 39 years, Melinda and Randy shared a loving marriage and enjoyed traveling, celebrating life’s milestones, and cherishing time with their family. She found peace and happiness in gardening and spending time at the beach along with attending her grandchildren’s various activities. She was also a member of Rehoboth Missionary Baptist Church, as well as an active and proud participant in Beta Sigma Phi, the Order of the Eastern Star, Martha Washington Chapter No. 300, First Foundation, and CARES; all organizations which fostered fellowship and community service.
Melinda’s personality left an indelible mark on her family, friends, and colleagues. Her legacy lives on in those who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jerrel Baker.
SURVIVORS: Melinda is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Randy Hodges; her mother, Bobby Ivie Baker; her oldest son Zach Hodges (Julie Hodges) and their children, Porter Hodges and Anderson Hodges, and youngest son Darby Hodges (Nicole Hodges) and their children, GraceHodges, Emma Hodges, and Clara Hodges; brother, Bryan Baker (Anita Baker) and child Cody Baker; sisters, DebraLynne (Bill Lynne) and children Christopher Avant (Tiffany Avant) and Jennifer Holloway (Joseph Holloway), and Lisa Bright (John Bright) and their children Ivie Page (Evan Page) and Erica Griffin (Paul Griffin).
Melinda will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her boundless love, her commitment to education and community, and the many lives she touched with kindness and care. Her memory remains a treasured gift to all who knew her.
