Nina Clara Sprinkle Barrow, 92 years of age, passed peacefully on February 22, 2025, at her North Charleston, SC, home surrounded by her family. Nina was born on January 22, 1933, in Pike County, KY, to the late Glen Hugh and Kate Emmaline Coley Sprinkle. Raised in the mining communities of Kentucky and West Virginia, Nina was living in Colonial Heights, VA, working as head cashier at Fort Lee Post Exchange, when she met and married an active-duty U.S. Marine from Georgia with three children. Blending her son from a previous marriage into the mix, it became the perfect recipe for an instant family of six and the love story of a lifetime. She excelled in her role as loving wife and mother and was best known for her delicious cooking, quick wit, sense of humor, don’t-dare-me attitude, singing, yodeling and whistling skills, her love for Jesus, Elvis and butterflies, and an extensive collection of refrigerator magnets. After three military moves and retirement, she settled in North Charleston, SC, where she has resided for 46 years, enjoying her wonderful neighbors over the years, especially the Freshwater and Draper families.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Edward M. Barrow, her son Charles Jeffrey “Jeff” LeBlanc and her daughter Lola Marie Groves, all of North Charleston. Known as Maw-Maw to her nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, she enjoyed the blessing of many nieces and nephews, as well as other family, and many friends.
The youngest girl of 14 children, she was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Linda Gail Barrow Wilder, son Edward “Eddie” Manzy Barrow II, and grandson Edward Glenn Rhoads. Also preceding her homegoing are all her siblings: Harold, Joe, Carl, Claude, Glenn “Babe”, Don and Bill Sprinkle, Lorraine Williamson, Edith Link, Virginia “Jenny” Haney and Eveyln Brown.
A Memorial Service will be held at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home, 513 W Main Street, Claxton, GA, 30417, on May 31, 2025. The family will receive visitors at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 11 a.m., with burial at Canoochee Cemetery.
