Randy Sellers

CLAXTON: Troy Randall “Randy” Sellers, age 81, passed away at his home on Monday, September 28, 2026, following a lengthy illness.

Randy was born in Savannah, Georgia, on February 10, 1945, to Martha and Troy Sellers. When he was six years old, his family relocated to Blackshear, Georgia, where he was raised. He graduated from Blackshear High School in 1963. During his high school years, one of his greatest passions was playing the trumpet in the school band.

Randy began his career with Seaboard Coast Line Railroad in Waycross, Georgia, before moving to Evans County, where he served as a Health Inspector. In 1974, he married Donna W. Sellers of Patterson, Georgia. The couple made their permanent home in Claxton in 1975, where they built a life centered on family, community, and service.

A lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, Randy was passionate about sharing his love of the outdoors with young people. He served as a Scoutmaster and took great pride in mentoring scouts and helping them develop leadership skills and a love for nature. He especially enjoyed participating in Boy Scout Jamborees with his troops. Randy earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Scouting. This prestigious honor is attained by only a small percentage of scouts and reflects years of dedication, leadership, and service. Randy was also an accomplished hunter and survivalist who appreciated the outdoors and self-reliance. He proudly wore the title of "Captain" after accomplishing his goal of earning his USCG Merchant Mariner Captains boating license. He loved cooking for family and friends and found great joy in spoiling his children and grandchildren. Above all, he will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a loyal friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Porter Sellers and Troy McKenzy Sellers of Blackshear, Georgia; his maternal grandparents, Gladys Porter Griffis of Savannah, Georgia, John Randall Griffis and step-grandmother Latrelle Moseley Griffis of Blackshear, Georgia; and his paternal grandparents, Minta Barnard and Thomas Sellers of Patterson, Georgia. Randy shared a particularly special bond with his grandfather, John Randall Griffis, whom he affectionately called “Papa.” Mr. Griffis served as a government revenuer in Savannah, Georgia and was a significant influence throughout Randy’s life.

SURVIVORS: Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 52 years, Donna W. Sellers; daughters, Felicia (Brian) Odum, Marcia Sellers (Sam Mason), Erica (Matt) Wells, and Dianna (Alan) Sikes; brother, Thomas “Jerry” Sellers of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Carla (B.J.) Barber, Michael Anthony Raulerson, Myah Walker, Whitney (Chris) Vettel, Courtney (John) Littles, Sidney Odum (Jeffery Sapp), Christian Troy Deloach, Larry Dalan Sikes, and Porter Lee Wells; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Barber, Tucker Raulerson, Grayson Raulerson, Adalada Vettel, Andi Jane Littles, John Littles, and Hensley Odum.

Randy’s legacy of faith, service, leadership, and love for family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the caregivers, medical professionals, friends, and family members whose kindness, support, and compassion were a source of comfort during Randy’s illness.

His legacy of service, leadership, love of family, and dedication to helping others will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
