CLAXTON: With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Wayne Collins, who passed away on July 10, 2026, at the age of 77.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dessie and Hazel Collins, and his sister, Peggy Monroe.

He is survived by the love of his life, Iris Collins; his children, Angela Collins Walsh of Atlanta, Georgia; David Collins (Bianca) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Maria Hanson (Luke) of Smyrna, Georgia. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Christopher Walsh of Atlanta, Georgia; Sean Walsh of Tokyo, Japan; Fraser Collins; Eli Bennett; and River, Collin, and Holden Hanson. He is also survived by his brother, Billy Collins (Gerelle) of Statesboro, Georgia; his cousin, Gail Charles of Metter, Georgia; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

More than anything else, he was a man of unwavering faith, quiet strength, and steadfast love. He lived with humility, integrity, and a servant's heart, touching countless lives through his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering character.

He graduated from Metter High School in 1966 and attended Georgia Southern University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin Bank Administration Institute, studying Bank Auditing, and earned Basic, Standard, and Advanced Diplomas through the American Institute of Banking.

Throughout his career, he was a respected leader in the banking community. He began his banking career while attending college as a teller at Pineland State Bank. He later served as Vice President at SBT Corporation, Executive Vice President at First National Bank of Vidalia, and President, CEO, and member of the Board of Directors at Bryce Banking Company. He went on to become Executive Vice President and CEO of First Citizens Bank before concluding his distinguished career as CEO, and served on the Board of Directors of The Claxton Bank. He also, served in The Georgia National Guard. Throughout his career, he was known for his integrity, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to serving his customers, colleagues, and community.

His dedication to service extended well beyond the banking industry. He was a founding father of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Georgia Southern University and remained active in civic and professional organizations throughout his life. He served with the Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, and the local Chamber of Commerce, while also holding numerous leadership and board positions within the banking community. He believed in giving back and worked tirelessly to strengthen every community he called home. He also was a member of Claxton First Church.

Away from work and community service, Wayne's greatest pastime was the game of golf. It was his true passion. Whether he was spending a day on the course with friends, watching a tournament on television, or traveling to experience new courses, golf brought him immense joy. Over the years, he had the opportunity to play countless courses across the United States and in more than ten countries, creating lifelong friendships and treasured memories along the way.

His legacy of faith, leadership, generosity, and love will continue through the family he cherished and the many lives he influenced. Though he will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing he is at peace in the presence of his Savior.
